THE BENEFITS OF A RAW FOOD DIET
“THE LIVING FOOD”
Of course, our body feeds on everything that is fresh and vital. Raw food diets promote the eating and tasting of “living foods“. A diet consisting of at least 70% raw food offers multiple health benefits for sure. Starting with weight reduction and body detoxification. If you wanna learn about all the benefits of a raw food diet and try simple but delicious recipes, please continue reading!
First, there is nothing more natural than eating raw food. Our metabolism feeds on everything that is fresh and vital, to say otherwise would be to affirm something completely false. A diet of raw foods (or increased consumption of raw foods) can only strengthen metabolism and give us a sense of well-being.
Diets made from raw foods are based on unprocessed and uncooked plant products, ideally organic. There are a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains, as well as dried fruits, freshly squeezed juice and purified water.
You’re probably wondering why raw food?
Well, this type of diet is essentially a vegetarian diet. Since it promotes the consumption of raw and organic “living food”. Most “living foods” and juices contain the optimal amount of fiber found in raw products. These valuable fibers can be lost in food processing. This is unfortunate because they are easily metabolized and are generally less rich in calories than traditional diets.
Then, you may not have known it, but heating the ingredients above 116F destroys the enzymes in the food. The same enzymes that help digestion and absorption of food, which has the effect of decreasing their nutritional value.
Let’s move on to the benefits of a raw food diet
First, the benefits of a diet of about 70% raw food are more than numerous. Here are just a few: increased energy, improved skin appearance, better digestion, a definite reduction in weight and a significant reduction in the risk of serious diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer or even diabetes.
Secondly, you should know that a raw food diet contains little or almost no saturated fat, low in sodium, but high in potassium, magnesium, folate, and fiber. What could be better?
Finally, eating raw foods will also be a great way to detoxify your body. Various combinations of raw products, live food and juice can be used to cleanse the colon, liver, kidneys, and skin.
The basic principles of a raw food diet.
It’s not that complicated, all fresh fruits (yes, every single one of them!), vegetables, cereals, seeds, legumes, beans, nuts, coconut milk and even seaweed should be part of your grocery basket. However, be aware that your choice of food may vary depending on why you are on a diet, for example:
- Sprouted brown rice reduces glucose absorption capacity and promotes metabolism.
- cabbage supports healthy cellular activity. Radish leaves have an antioxidant effect, similarly for the Shitake mushroom.
- As for carrots, they are an important source of vitamin A and contribute to a healthy vision and a strong cardiovascular system.
- Did you know that you can use a sprouter like the Easy Green automatic sprouter to sprout seeds, grains, beans and even wheatgrass?
Sprouts could easily hold the title of superfood.
Because biological sprouts contain enormous amounts of proteins, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll pigments, enzymes and trace elements. They alone are the perfect natural complement.
In a kitchen, sprouts can have several uses. They can be incorporated into salads, soups or even transformed into juice. Speaking of juices, when freshly squeezed, they can be a good source of energy. That’s why having an excellent quality juice maker, like the Kempo Greenpower (truly the best!), it produces real “living juices”, which are full of nutrients and essential to our health.
Here is the recipe I use personally.
I very frequently use carrot juice with apple, fennel, and potato, which is really very simple and quick to produce. It is also an excellent recipe to complement your raw food diet. Simply press 4 medium sized carrots, 2 apples, 1 small potato and add only a small sprig of fennel.
Fennel has been shown to reduce and control inflammation in arthritis, regulate mood swings and depressive states. It also contains the rather rare nutrient called manganese, not to mention zinc and vitamin B complex.
Now let’s talk about cereal (Hey ! Not Corn Flakes!)
The nutritional value of some grains and seeds is simply impressive. They have most of the important vitamins. In particular A, B and E. They are also fabulous natural sources of lecithin and unsaturated fatty acids, as well as a good source of protein.
Take advantage of soy milk maker (Such as Joyoung Collection which is one of the Best Seller on Amazon) to prepare your non-dairy drinks from different beans, rice, nuts, seeds and grains that you can enjoy when you get up in the morning. However, if you want something a little more consistent than soy milk, you could make your own tofu (or, of course, visit a good health food store, Have you heard about the new Amazon Fresh Store / Organic Groceries). Every product you’ll find there are 100% certified organic goodness!
Essentially, the idea behind a raw food diet is to eat unprocessed foods at least 70% of the time. If the idea of raw food doesn’t sound very tasty to you, you can heat the food a little longer at a temperature lower than 116F. Otherwise, you will lose a lot of the positive aspects of your food.
Cautionary Note – Warning – Caution
Of course, as with any major change in our eating habits, it’s wise to consult your family doctor before starting a special diet. This is especially true for children, pregnant women, as well as people suffering from anemia and anyone with a pre-existing fragile health condition.
I have to tell you, I’m not a big fan of doctors. However, I am aware that even natural foods can interfere with certain medications, so if you are already on medication, you should ask your doctor or pharmacist if such a diet is right for you.
This is important because you must realize that a raw diet has a detoxifying effect. Then, some people may suffer a mild reaction to detoxification, including mild headaches, nausea, and sudden cravings. These symptoms may last for several days and you will eventually no longer enjoy your raw eating style. That’s why you should start by reducing your intake of meat, sugar, and caffeine at least a week or more in advance. This time will serve as preparation for the diet.
So, to conclude
A diet with raw foods will certainly be a good way to enhance your overall health and well-being. Like anything worth it, it also takes time, energy and determination. Since many of the foods for this specific type of diet are prepared from scratch, so you will need to devote some time to it. However, there are many quality products on the market that can help you prepare your own live food and save you a lot of time.
So if you combine your diet with regular exercise, you’ll also get an excellent weight loss method. If you sometimes feel a little off, or you just need a boost and a little extra energy, well, adopted a raw diet and you will get a boost of life!
